Barney Northrup:
He is 62, and there is no real man named Barney Northrup. A realtor who sells the apartments of Sunset Towers. He sometimes lies to promote his properties. He is an alias of Windy Windkloppel. |
Dr. Jake Wexler:
A podiatrist and bookie who is Barney Northrup's first appointment, with his wife. He is married to Grace Windsor Wexler. He is not as impressed with his apartment (3D) at Sunset Towers as his wife. Does not attend the reading of Westing's will. Is partnered with Madame Sun Lin Hoo, and helps her learn English. He is also the bookie and a Green Bay Packers' fan. |
Gracie Windkloppel "Grace Windsor" Wexler:
She is Dr. Jake Wexler's wife. She, along with her husband, are Barney Northrup's first appointment. She is overjoyed excited with about apartment (3D) at Sunset Towers. She has two daughters, Angela and Turtle. She is, in fact, related to Westing (McSouthers/ Northrup/ Eastman/ Windkloppel), which she states at the beginning, most likely not knowing that she's correct. She is pushing Angela into her marriage, and thinks that Turtle is an annoying complainer. She smokes and can decipher shorthand. |
Sydelle Pulaski:
She is the secretary to the president of Schultz Sausages who is Barney Northrup's sixth and final appointment. She is not overly joyous about her apartment on the first floor. She uses fake crutches to get attention. She is the mistake. Westing meant to get Sybil Pulaski, Violet's childhood friend, but messed up. She is partnered with Angela Wexler. Breaks her ankle in the second bomb explosion. |
Flora Baumbach:
Owns apartment 2C at Sunset Towers. She is a dressmaker. She is partnered with Turtle Wexler, who she thinks real name is T.R. She is connected to Westing because she made his daughter's wedding dress, which she never wore, because she committed suicide before the wedding. She monitors the stock market for Turtle while she is at school. Turtle calls her baba. She had at daughter named Rosalie, who died before the story began. James Shin Hoo:
Asian man who owns apartment 4C with his family. Is married to Sun Lin Hoo. He also owns Shin Hoo (later Hoo's on first) Restaurant on Level 5 of Sunset Towers. He is partnered with Grace Windsor Wexler. He is connected to Westing because he tried to sue Westing over a copyright issue. While Westing was going to the case with his lawyer, Dr. Sydney Sikes, the were involved in a car accident in which Westing disappeared in. His son, Doug, is an olympic track star. Theodore "Theo" Theodorakis:
Slim high-school senior. He lives with his family in apartment 2D at Sunset Towers. Brother of Chris Theodorakis and cares for him. He is connected to Westing because his dad was George Theodorakis, who Violet Westing was in love with but was not aloud to marry so she drowned herself. He is Doug Hoo's partner. Otis Amber:
Wiry 62-year-old delivery boy. He is tasked with sending the invitations to the will hearing of Sam Westing. He is in love with Berthe Erica Crow, whom with he is partnered. Christos "Chris" Theodorakis:
Brother of Theo Theodorakis. Lives in apartment 2D with family. Is crippled and has seizures at random times. He is a birdwatcher. Is partnered with Dr. Deere, who later helps cure him. Is connected to Westing because of his dad, George. Dr. Denton Deere:
Angela's fiance, and soon to-be husband. An intern at the hospital. He is partnered with Chris, and helps him with his seizures. He is connected to Westing because of his bride-to-be Angela, and her mom, Grace's, connection. She doesn't marry Angela there, but later does. Samuel W. Westing:
Not a resident at Sunset Towers. Owns Westing Mansion. In his will, he starts the Westing game. He is the most well known alias of Windy Windkloppel, and founder of WPP (Westing Paper Products). George Theodorakis:
Dad of Christos and Theo. Owns coffee shop in basement of Sunset Towers. He was Violet Westing's fiance. She drowned herself because her mom wouldn't let her marry him. He ends up marrying Catherine. Is not an heir. First bomb is in the kitchen of his coffee shop. Edgar Jennings "EJ" Plum:
Lawyer who reads will of Westing for heirs. He drops a lot of big news. Windy Windkloppel:
Real name of Samuel W. Westng, Barney Northrup, Julian Eastman, and Sandy McSouthers. Son of two immigrants. Changes his name at first to Samuel Westing for business purposes. Violet Westing:
Daughter of Sam Westing and Berthe Erica Crow. She loves George Theodorakis, and drowns herself on the eve of her wedding to another man when Crow doesn't let her marry George. |
Judge Josie-Jo "J.J." Ford:
She is a judge with a maroon Mercedes. Owns apartment 4D at Sunset Towers. She is the daughter of two workers of the Westing mansion, and was taught chess by Westing. In her final game versus Westing, he wins by a strategy called the Queen's Sacrifice. That is how she figures out that Westing is not dead. She is in debt to him because he paid for her schooling. She is partnered with Sandy McSouthers, who is actually an alias of Westing himself. With Sandy, she makes a list of all the heirs/ suspects with their Westing connections. She thinks that Westing wasn't murdered, but that he has a plot to get revenge. She is trying to help Westing's supposed victim. Alexander "Sandy" McSouthers:
Doorman of Sunset Towers. He is not a resident of Sunset Towers, though. He was fired by Westing as the doorman of his mansion when he tried to organize the servants himself. He is also an alias of Windy Windkloppel. He is partnered with J.J ford. To disguise an odd part in the will, he makes a joke about it so nobody hears what it says. He also suggests the idea of murder to lead the heirs off track. He technically takes Westing's life, because Westing turned into Sandy. Douglas "Doug" Hoo:
Son James Hoo and step-son of Sun Lin Hoo. Also lives in apartment 4C at Sunset Tower. A high-school senior and later an olympic track star. He is partnered with Theo Theodorakis. He is connected to Westing because of his dad, James. Tabitha-Ruth "Turtle" "T.R." "Alice" Wexler:
Younger daughter of Dr. Jake & Mrs. Grace Vexler. She is in junior high. She has braids, and if anyone touches them, she kicks that person in the shins. She gets dared to go into the Westing Mansion, and finds him dead. She keeps tabs on the stock market at all time. She thinks the answer is to buy stock. She is the sole winner of the Westing game, finding out Julian Eastman is the final alias of Windy Windkloppel. She is there when all the aliases, really Eastman, die. She is partnered with Flora Baumbach. He is connected to Westing because of her mom, Grace. She often makes rude jokes at Dr. Deere's expense. Pretends to be the bomber to save her sister, Angela. Angela Wexler:
Older daughter of Dr. Jake & Mrs. Grace Wexler. Engaged to Dr. Deere. She is partnered with Sydelle Pulaski. She is connected to Westing because of her mom, Grace. In the end, she marries Denton Deere, and has a child, Alice. She is the bomber, and later has a scar because of a bomb. She is being forced into marriage with Denton Deere by her mother. Berthe Erica Crow:
Dr. Jake Wexler's patient. Also groundskeeper of the Westing Mansion. She lives in Sunset Towers. She was Westing's wife, who wouldn't let Violet marry George Theodorakis, for which Westing hates her. She is in love with Otis Amber, and volunteers for the Salvation Army. Mrs. Sun Lin "Sunny"Hoo:
Wife of James Hoo. Step-mother of Doug Hoo. Steals Turtle's mickey-mouse clock. She vows never to steal Doug's metals, even if they would get her back to China sooner. She never gets back to China, and her first English word she knows is boom. Lives in apartment 4C with family. Does not attend will hearing. Does not speak any English, although is taught by Jake Wexler, with whom she is partnered. Catherine Theodorakis;
Mom of Christos and Theo. Co-owns coffee shop with husband. Not an heiress. First bomb is in her kitchen. Julian R. Eastman:
Fourth and final alias of Windy Windkloppel. He dies in the final chapter. Turtle is by his side. He is the CEO of Westing Paper Products. He signs Westing's will as a witness. Dr. Sidney Sikes, MD:
Coroner of Westing county. Also signed Westing's will and his certificate of sanity. Sikes was with Westing the last time he was seen on his way to court when involved in a car accident. |
